Dr. Roberta Westbrook Dev Anand, DVM
Dr. Roberta Westbrook Dev Anand is a 2004 graduate of University of Missouri-Columbia College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Dev worked for 3 years in a small animal private practice in Humble, TX upon graduation from vet school. She soon realized a passion for surgery and for helping animals that were abandoned and in poor health. She worked for more than 2 years at the Houston SPCA, appearing on such television shows as Animal Cops Houston, and Great Day Houston.
In 2010 Dr. Dev began working at the Vet Tech Institute of Houston where she could share her knowledge and experiences with students striving to become licensed veterinary technicians. She currently teaches veterinary courses at the school including Surgery and Anesthesia, Canine and Feline Management; and has taught several other courses such as Anatomy & Physiology and Biology. Dr. Dev has a passion for helping animals through the education of veterinary professionals.
Dr. Dev works part-time at Palm to Paws with her husband Dr. Rajan. They both enjoy having place of their own where they can continue to “Help people, and Help animals.”
Dr. Dev Rajan
Dr. Rajan being born in India had an innate reverence towards cows and other livestock. He clearly understood the human-animal bond and interdependence which motivated him to pursue his studies in Veterinary Science in 1989.
After graduating in 1995, Dr. Rajan started his own mixed animal practice in Chennai, India. Within a short period, the client volume multiplied exponentially, enhancing his medical, surgical and handling skills.
After his graduation in 2005, he worked for major organizations like Banfield, Houston SPCA, and SNAP. He found his real passion in performing high-volume spay and neuter surgeries in the shelter. He went to work for ‘Spay Houston’ and ‘Abandoned Animal Rescue’. Dr. Rajan found his life’s purpose in performing high-volume sterilization surgeries which would ultimately prevent euthanasia due to pet over-population.
Dr. Rajan’s motto has always been: ‘When passion and skill work together expect a masterpiece’.
Marina Mlakic- Technician
Marina was born in Bosnia, but spent most of her life right here in Houston, TX. She graduated VTI in 2013 with honors, and receieved her AAS in veterinary technology. Marina completed a full rotation externship at Westbury Animal Hospital where she got hands on experience with surgery, general wellness, laboratory procedures, the ICU, and emergency medicine. She was hired on to be one of their emergency technicians and therefore has a strong background with critical cases and emergencies involving companion animals. Marina’s main interests in veterinary medicine are clinical pathology and emergency medicine. Marina lives with her husband of 5 years (Bruce), a 4 year old Beagle (Zoey) with a great smile, and a 6 year old Dachsund (Sophia) who was adopted from VTI.
